Why a fall still gets missed on a busy floor

In a large plant a worker can go down and stay unnoticed for minutes. High racks, noise, and distance between teams make visual checks unreliable. Location-based services that rest on RTLS turn that gap into something the system can close. The concrete mechanism is the Man Down / Fall Detector inside the tConnect app.

The detector does not replace safety culture or training. It simply gives the control room a timed, location-tagged signal when a person stops moving or hits the floor. That signal only exists because the same BLE triangulation already used for assets is also available for people who have chosen to carry the phone.

How the detector and the ten-second window work

tConnect is an Android-only app that triangulates BLE beacons and streams positions into the Twinzo platform. When the app registers a fall or a prolonged motionless period that matches man-down criteria, it starts a 10-second countdown. During those ten seconds the wearer can cancel the alert. If the countdown expires without cancellation, the system raises the alarm and attaches the last known position.

BLE typically provides 1-3 meter accuracy. That is enough to send responders to the correct aisle or work cell rather than a vague zone. The detector itself needs the RTLS layer; without the live position stream the countdown would only tell you that someone is in trouble, not where.

The same platform that shows forklifts and material movements therefore carries the personnel alert. No separate safety network is required, but the use case stays narrow: the alert is triggered only by the detector logic, not by continuous monitoring of every movement.

Opt-in is not optional

Personal tracking is always opt-in and justified only by a safety or compliance need. Location data is encrypted and access is role-controlled. The platform claims GDPR compliance, which means the decision to enable tracking for any individual has to be deliberate and documented around safety, not convenience or general workforce visibility.

A plant that treats the consent step as a formality will run into both legal and cultural problems. The worker who carries the phone must understand that the only purpose of the position stream is the man-down path. Once that boundary is clear, the tool can be used without turning into surveillance.

What happens after the countdown ends

When the ten seconds finish, the live position appears on the operational digital twin. Supervisors or the control room see the location against the facility layout. Responders move to a known point instead of starting a search. Historical position data can be replayed later if an investigation is needed, but the immediate value is the real-time coordinate that arrives with the alert.

Because the underlying RTLS already updates positions for assets, the same map and the same data path serve the safety event. The difference is the trigger: a fall or prolonged inactivity detected by the phone, confirmed by the countdown, and only then escalated.

Checks that decide whether the feature is worth enabling

Before turning the detector on, confirm that BLE beacons actually cover the zones where lone work or high-risk tasks occur. Walk the areas with the phone and verify that the position stays stable enough for a responder to find the person. Test the fall-detection sensitivity and the cancel button under real noise and motion conditions. Map the alert route so the right people receive both the alarm and the coordinate.

Document the opt-in conversation so every tracked worker has explicitly agreed for safety reasons. Keep the scope limited to the man-down path; expanding it to routine movement tracking defeats the justification that makes the feature acceptable.

The decision is therefore narrow and practical. Either the plant has a genuine need for automated location-aware man-down alerts and the workforce accepts the opt-in trade-off, or it does not. When both conditions are met, the tConnect detector gives the floor a concrete, time-bounded safety signal that was previously missing.
